Karl Lembit is a freelance consultant with several years of experience in designing and facilitating strategy processes, formerly in DD StratLab. He has done this mostly regarding municipal governments (Kanepi, Jõelähtme, Nõo, Luunja) as well as NGOs (all sorts of hobby schools as well as their representative umbrella organization HUVE, the Estonian Association of Psychiatrists, teh Estonian Auxiliary Police Association etc.). He has also participated as a facilitator in two local level citizens assemblies and is currently doing using his expertise in facilitating a third, national one.
Karl Lembit’s main job is in the Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies as a junior research fellow (doctoral student) of political science, concentrating on the crisis and renewal of representative democracy from the perspective of normative political theory.
He holds a Master’s degree in Philosophy (Intellectual History of Political Theory) and a Bachelor’s thesis in Political Science.
He has also been a student representative in the University of Tartu since 2018 in basically all the different levels of the university, including the President and Vice President of the Student Union and a member of the university senate.
Societal roles
The council is the highest decision-making body in the institute, responsible for making the main decisions regarding recruitment, quality of studies and the strategic aims of the institute. As head of the Institute Student Council, Karl Lembit has tried to strengthen the bond between the students and their representatives by creating a network of contacts, a regular survey, an annual input-gathering event as well as communicating the council’s activities through regular reports.
